As much as she pretended to be bored by the drudgery of dress shopping, she loved every second of it. She was on her eighth boutique now, the saleswoman coming forth with her third armful of styles. She was used to this after years of debutante balls and social galas, and she could tell from the moment she walked into a store which dress would work, and which dresses wouldn't. It never failed to stop her from trying on every single glorious bridal gown, despite the feigned boredom. She suspected her friends were onto her.

Not that it mattered. She decided long before she got engaged exactly what dress she wanted and who was going to design it. But why would she tell anyone that and lose out on the fun of dress shopping? She smiled prettily at her exhausted and drooping bridesmaids. BUCK UP GIRLS, I'm just getting warmed up, she thought. As she wriggled into a Chantilly lace confection and presented her back to be buttoned, she admired her reflection and started to wonder if she shouldn't have a separate dress for the reception.
