She sighed in exasperation as the Twin Terrors turned down yet another flower girl dress. If Zoe didn't like it, Jolie did, and vice versa. She was getting very close to just grabbing the closest frock and telling them they would have to manage, but then she had nightmare visions of the girls running down the aisle with their dresses over their heads and thought better of it. I need their cooperation.

She heard squeals of joy from the back of the store. "I love it!" squealed Zoe." "Me too!" shouted Jolie. Thank God.

And out they came, dragging behind them two flouncy pink pageant dresses covered in iridescent lavender sequins.

"No," she said. "No way. Sorry girls." Their faces fell. "Can't you at least pick something white?" They sat in the corner, tenderly holding the dresses and whispering something about princesses.

She sighed again. Well, they wouldn't clash with the flowers, at least. And they would be happy, which means she would be happy.

"All right, pink princesses," she called out. "Let's get those dresses and get out of here." She thought of her mother's reaction to the sequins. "And don't show them to your Great-Auntie!"

As she nervously chewed on her fist, her cousin gave her a hug and said, "I know a great seamstress who can get the sequins off for you. They'll forget they were there." She watched the girls run around excitedly. "You're a better bride than I was."
